In this niche marketing example, we're going to tackle the keyword keyword. If that sounds funny, it's not. Believe it or not, the keyword keyword gets searched for quite a bit. Finding out what to do with it is a different story altogether. But we are going to give it a shot.
If you go to Wordtracker and look up keyword, you will find out that it was searched for only 216 times. That's not all that much. It leads me to believe that this keyword isn't really not that popular and maybe not easy to make money off of. In looking at our list, we find that keywords actually gets looked up 550 times. So maybe we'd be better off using that. Well, let's check with Google and see what competing sites we have for both.
If we go to Google and look up keyword, we come up with 433 million sites. If we look up the same word in its plural form, we come up with 516 million sites. So in either case, we have way too much competition and need to try to narrow this niche down a bit. So let's look through our Wordtracker list and see what we come up with.
I tried keyword research but that was still over 1 million sites. I tried keyword marketing but that was at 599,000 sites. Still not very promising, so I looked some more. I finally came to keyword search tool and Google only gave me back 40,700 sites. Perfect. This was a great niche to tackle.
The next thing we had to do was go to GoDaddy and see what domains were available for this. The first one I thought of was bestkeywordsearchtools.com. Well, this domain was taken, but the same domain without the “s” at the end of tool was available. So I think this would be a great domain for our site.
Okay, how do we monetize a site like this? Actually, this one is very easy to do. First thing we have to do is go back to Google and retype in our keyword phrase that we've chosen. If we do this, we'll find a number of sites talking about free tools you can use but also quite a few paid ads to the right. So there are keyword search tools that are not free. My first guess would be that if you went to Clickbank and looked up this same phrase, you would find a few tools that you could sell through Clickbank. Sure enough, there were plenty, including the very popular Keyword Elite. Imagine being able to get a foothold into this niche with a keyword phrase that doesn't have a ton of competition.
Okay, how can we monetize this? Well, off the top of my head, I'm thinking that after we get our domain and hosting, we start writing articles on the subject. Submit some of them to directories and others we put on our site. We then write reviews on several keyword search tools and recommend some paid tools, from Clickbank or wherever you want to promote them from, in order to earn some revenue. If you like, you can also put some Adsense ads on the site as well in order to earn from them.
You might want to offer a free report that people can opt in to get. Inside the report, you'll point out some basic things about keyword tools and then maybe have an affiliate link for a tool that you recommend.
Again, this is just off the top of my head. If you have programming skills, you can create your own tools and sell that. There are plenty of ways you can monetize this keyword.
All you need is a little imagination.
